DSWT on Facebook & Twitter

Hello everyone!

Well I guess I will need to work on my Kenya 2002 posts soon again, after all these posts about DSWT. I am very happy to inform you that Kristin Davis was very happy with my (small) post about her and her support for DSWT. And she even tweeted about my post as well!

I am very proud of this. It is a simple (well, in my eyes) post but hopefully it will help people decide that they would love to spend $ 50 a year (at least) to support an orphaned elephant or rhino.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is also active on both Facebook and Twitter. The fun thing about the Facebook site is, that you can see MANY pictures that people who have been to the nursery/orphanage have uploaded. It is wonderful! And you can share your love for the elephants and rhinos with many fellow foster parents.

Click on the image above to go directly to the DSWT Facebook site. Click on “like” to follow all updates. You can also donate through their site as well.

And as mentioned, DSWT is also on Twitter!

Also, click on the image above to go directly to the DSWT Twitter site and click on “Follow” for all the latest updates. And you could also follow Kristin Davis, Vrienden van de Olifant and well, perhaps you could also follow me (Cynni Elelover @elephantorphins).

And please remember: if you wish to help the DSWT, please donate and/or become a foster parent of one (or more) of their orphans! Give someone a foster elephant or rhino for their birthday or anniversary! It’s an original present and it gives so much love! Help Dame Daphne, her daughter and their staff to support these orphans so they can go back into the wild some day. Preserve the elephants and rhinos in Kenya.

Thanks for reading, thanks for caring!

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis supports the DSWT!

After seeing a Tweet by Sex and the City star Kristin Davis (she portrayed Charlotte York), I became very happy. I saw that she supports the “David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust” as well and she even devoted a few pages on her official website to it.

Here is the Tweet (and a reply to me as well, made me very, very excited).

So please check out Kristin’s fabulous site about her visit to the nursery and her support of this good cause.

Click here to go to the site. If you wish to follow Kristin, well, you can see her Twitter name in the picture above.

This is not my picture, I borrowed it from Kristin’s official site.

If you wish to support Dame Daphne Sheldrick’s good work as well, please visit this older blog post for more information. Or, if you are from the Netherlands or wish to support through the Dutch support group, click here for the blog post about it.

Thanks for reading and hopefully for your support of the DSWT!

Dutch “Vrienden van de Olifant” organization

I have mentioned before that I have been a part of the “Vrienden van de Olifant”  organization back in 90’s. I had adopted an elephant there, well I got it as a present for my birthday from my parents. Then my boyfriend adopted an elephant as well and later I gave my best friend an adopted elephant for her birthday as well. Of course it’s not really “my” little one, because many people will be foster parent of the same elephant. BUT they need a lot of money to care for the animals. They provide shelter and food, they pick the little ones up and have special vet teams on the move throughout their working areas.

I have also mentioned the price of fostering an elephant through the Dutch site, Olifanten.org. It costs 66 Euros per elephant per year. You can choose from over 20 elephants in Kenya. You can choose to pay per year or per 2 months (11 Euros). Because the site is in Dutch, I will tell you here what you will get throughout the year when you choose to become a foster with “Vrienden van de Olifant”:

  • A foster parent certificate, including your name and the name of your fostered elephant
  • A personal “Elephant card”
  • A great colored picture of your fostered elephant every year
  • A DVD in October/November
  • A newsletter, 4 times a year (every 3 months) with all the latest updates
  • The magazine “De Olifant/The Elephant” which comes out 4 times a year (because when you adopt an elephant, you automatically also become a friend of the elephant)

And of course you support Dame Daphne Sheldrick’s good work as well.

Head caretaker Edwin addresses the crowd

So if you want a little bit more than you will be getting at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust site, for a little more money, go to the Vrienden van de Olifant and foster through them. For about 30 euros more you get the DVD, real picture and the magazine. Through the DSWT site you will also get updates, but only digital. This is to save time and money. So please support this great cause by either adopting through VVdO (Vrienden van de Olifant) or DSWT (David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust).

BUT there is one more plus at the VVdO: their foster trip each year to see the orphans! This link will take you to the original site, which is in Dutch. But I guess it won’t be hard to understand. They offer a wonderful trip that will “ensure” (they can’t guarantee of course) you the chance to meet your elephant (when it hasn’t returned to the wild, of course) and see how your money has been put to work.

Please visit either website and support an orphaned elephant or rhino today! Thanks!

Baby elephants at Sheldricks orphanage Nairobi
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Flickr group

As I posted yesterday evening (well, it was evening for me then), I am trying to gather as many pictures that are on Flickr with the subject: the orphaned elephants and rhinos that are being cared for by Dame Sheldrick and her people in Kenya. I added many people to my contact list so I could send them a message, asking them to join the group and share their pictures. So far, there are 4 new members and a total of 99 pictures. So it’s going quite well. Now I hope people will spread the word and join by themselves to add their wonderful elephant and rhino shots.

I will of course also keep searching for pictures, asking people to add them to the group. And I really hope it will give the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust some more attention and maybe some more donations/adoptions as well.

If you have missed my previously written post about the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, please click here for the original post or here to go directly to the official website.

Wishing you all a nice day and thank you for checking in,
Cynni

Kenia059

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog site. This time it’s not a travel/journey post. But it is about one of my most favorite animals: the elephant.

I have written a post before about the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust a week ago. And today I have started a search on Flickr to find pictures that were made at one of the orphanage sites. I have created a gallery in which I am trying to gather as much pictures as I can find (and hopefully one day, my own). And then I found out I could only add 18 items to one gallery, so I had to create more than 1 ☺ But it’s good to know that there are MANY beautiful pictures already on Flickr that were made at the nursery & orphanage. And seeing it will take me a while to find all the pictures, I have created a group especially for all the pictures made at the nursery & orphanage. So if you are reading this and you have been there, please join and share your pictures here! And right now I am still browsing for pictures, adding contacts so I can send them a message with an invite to the group. I hope that soon, it will be an amazing picture place…

Tips for finding these pictures on Flickr: search on “Sheldrick” and you will get quite a lot of pictures already. If you’d like to see more elephant pictures, of course search for “Elephants”. There are many groups already… So you won’t be disappointed.

I will get on with video editing and inviting people to join the picture pool on Flickr. Will keep you informed on the results.

Thanks for checking in, have a nice day and hope that you’ll come back soon!

Imenti_001

Jambo! It’s a beautiful day today and I have finally done something I have been wanting to do for a long time now: I am, again, a foster to a baby elephant in Kenya. I have been a foster for a couple of years, starting in 1998. Back then, Imenti was “my” little one. I also gave a foster package to a dear friend once for her birthday, she got Illingwezi.

I also got involved with the Dutch organization that supports Dame Sheldrick’s good work in Kenya. But after a while, I didn’t have the time anymore and I had to quit. And a while after that, I had not enough money to support this great cause. I have been checking the Wildlife Trust site every now and then, but never clicked on: foster an orphan. Until today! More
