How “Harry Kim” finally got promoted…

and how the “Captain’s Table” Sunday got a bit of the Dutch…

PICT0524ALL of that, thanks to Garrett Wang loving stroopwafels, my girlfriend and I knowing that, talking with Kate “Captain Kathryn Janeway” Mulgrew and our crazy idea…

Let’s take you all back to the very beginning. Last April, during FedCon XX, we had the honor of meeting Garrett Wang. To all Trekkies who followed the 7 years that “Voyager” run he is best known as “Ensign Harry Kim”, the one that never promoted.

PICT0091

During FedCon XX, Harry got “promoted” by the captain of “Enterprise” Scott “Jonathan Archer” Bakula. If course this was told to Kate at the beginning of the Captain’s Table. So Kate was shocked but replied that it didn’t count. When Sir Patrick “Captain Jean Luc Picard” Stewart” came on stage, he told Garrett that, if he had served on his vessel, he would have been promoted as well… So the topic was set! More

Overasseltse Vennen

DSCN0948

On Thursday, June 2nd 2011, Joyce and I took Chance for a walk at the Overasseltse Vennen. They are also referred as the Hatertse Vennen. The Vennen are located around the St. Walrickweg, the road from Nijmegen to Overasselt.

The only real info about “Vennen” in English, I found here on Wikipedia.org.I also found some info in Dutch on this site. Also some Dutch info on this site.

But I guess I could Google so many sites and they still would not be able to show you all the beauty this area has to offer! I am not a biologist, but I did make some nice pictures to show you around this beautiful area. Hope you’ll like it! And if you have the chance, go there yourself some day for a beautiful walk in an wonderful area.

DSCN0188 FedCon, the 20th edition, 2011

Normally I would post about this at my other blog site. But for some reason, I want to post it here… So maybe I will post it here and then copy it to my other blog as well. One of the reasons I haven’t been too active on all my blogs lately is called FedCon. It is a 4 day (used to be 3 days) Sci-Fi convention held in Düsseldorf (used to be Bonn and before that Fulda) in Germany. The event was being held from the 28th of April till the 1st of May 2011 at the Maritim Hotel, near Düsseldorf Airport. And then, when I finally became active at this blog site to write about FedCon, it took me a long time to finish it the way it is now. I have tried to add as much hyper-links in my story as possible. This way, you are just one click away of obtaining more information about the stuff I am blogging about. This is a main reason of my blog here, to be informative. So I live to serve… Since this year’s event would be a 4 day one (Thursday till Sunday), Joyce and I left for Düsseldorf on Wednesday already. We planned to meet up with a dear friend who would show us a bit around the city. The Monday and Tuesday had been great weather wise, so on Wednesday, it rained. So the pictures I can show you of Düsseldorf could have been way better, if the weather had allowed it. Of course, the sun started to shine as soon as we were heading back to the hotel. So let me take you on our journey of FedCon XX. Sit back, relax, enjoy a drink and hopefully you will also be able to enjoy this post.

Early morning in Cuijk

After posting some pictures I made while driving from/to work, I also wanted to share some pictures I made this morning. I came home seeing wonderful sunlit clouds and I just had to walk with Chance as soon as I got home. Chance didn’t mind at all Hondengezicht.

I am still working on my long post about FedCon XX. Seeing I have to work again tomorrow morning and have a friend coming over the afternoon/evening/night… I hope to be able to write on Monday, as we celebrate a National free day here in the Netherlands on that day. So please keep checking! Updates on Flickr and Facebook. Other update options are through e-mail subscription and RSS feed.

Have a nice day! 22-03-2011 Older image, only used as illustration

The sun

Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the sun. Sunrise and sunset to be more precise. Or when the sun is “playing” with the clouds. Seeing I have been working the night shift this week, I went to work during sunset and drove home during sunset. I know it’s dangerous, but I have tried to make some pictures while driving.

Please keep in mind that I had to shoot the picture(-s) as I was driving.

I have created a new folder on my Flickr space to share these pictures with you.

A while ago, while I was lingering at the waterside with Joyce and Chance in Linden, I had my Nikon camera with me.

I am also still working on my long, very long, post about FedCon XX. I “only” have the Sunday left to cover. So I will leave you with these pictures and I wish you a good day.

Thanks for checking in and I hope you will do so more often. Don’t forget you can easily keep in touch with my site posts through RSS feeds and e-mail alerts Sukkelige emoticon.

I have uploaded pictures to my Flickr page. Some pictures I am sharing in the FedCon picture pool on Flickr. A short day in Nijmegen

Waal

On Saturday, April 16th 2011, Joyce and I had to go to Nijmegen. Nijmegen is the oldest city of the Netherlands, closely followed by Maastricht. Since I had to buy a bag for my new Nikon P500 camera, I took it along. I had bought a Sandisk memory card for it, the extreme SDHC 16GB. I had searched the internet and believed it to be one of the best cards available and ready for the super fast interface of the P500. So far, I didn’t have any problems with it and it was working super fast… More

Moon

YES it is a picture of the moon. It’s not a full moon though, but it was showing nicely yesterday night and I just wanted to try out the Nikon P500 in nightshot mode. I used a tripod for this picture and full zoom. More

A bike trip of 47 kilometers

Saturday, April 2nd 2011, promised to be a wonderful spring day. Seeing Joyce didn’t have to work, we decided to take our bikes and ride around for the afternoon. George didn’t want to come along, so it was just the two of us. I took along my small Sony DSC-W90, because it seemed fun to make some pictures along he way. We only knew we wanted to start by going to Center Parcs Heijderbos. After that, we would just see where the road would take us.

I have tried to link as much stuff to sites containing more information. Unfortunately, most sites are in Dutch. But if you’re interested, please click and hopefully you will understand some of it…
